‘Top of my Charts’ Thursday | Eyeliners

I’ve pretty picky about my make up brands, and eyeliners in particular. I’ve tried and trialled a lot of different brands, but I’ve decided that these are my top 5 black eyeliners.

TOP 5 EYELINERS

1. Long wear Gel Eyeliner | Bobbi Brown
I am in love with this eyeliner. Its water-resistant, I find it easy to apply, and stays on for a long time without smearing. I suggest you use a ‘Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush’, they are the best!

2. Neo Noir Liquid Liner | Napoleon
The best way to apply eyeliner if you don’t like using brushes but prefer liquid is this precision pen from Napoleon. Its waterproof, soft tip, and lasts for more than six hours. I loved it!

3. Fluid line Gel Eyeliner | M.A.C
M.A.C has always been a favourite of mine and this product was just another added to my list. Its a softer, smoother finish; not to mention it is smudge proof.

4. Eye Pencil | Australis
This brand was one of my first eyeliners, it takes me back to when I was 16 haha but it never fails. If you want a good eyeliner for a bargain go with Australis, its is a soft creamy pencil which gives a subtle smudged effect.

5. Luxurious Colour Eyeliner | Revlon
A smudger on the end of any eye pencil is a godsend! This eyeliner from Revlon is blendable and comes in rich colours.

Practice what you Preach

Everyday you read on numerous social networking sites quotes, sayings, thoughts and even questions about life.

The potential reaction from posting these ‘so called’ inspiring words are to pick out what relates to you, who believes the same and who agrees. But most of the time do people practice what they preach? I’m a firm believer that if you say your going to do something, then be true to your word and do it; unless of coarse you find it really hard, but impossible is nothing right?

Life is full of contradictions - simple as that.

It happens more so than not everyday, we have contradictions between what we believe and how we bahave and I can admit, I know I have alot of contraditions. We believe that to be healthy we need to eat healthy, but we then choose to eat the wrong foods. We say we want satisfying jobs, but we still chase jobs that earn us more money, and we say we want to watch the news and learn more about foreign affairs but we stick to channels like MTV and the E!. Practicing what you preach isn’t easy and for some it may be impossible to complete.

But even if you can’t escape the contradictions of modern living, you can lessen their impact.  You can consult what you know to be true, and use that to guide you, instead of rationalizing your behavior and living a lie.

You can resolve a lot of personal conflicts by starting with a simple question: “What is true?”

Tasty Tuesday

RICE NOODLE SALAD WITH CHICKEN

I started looking at food sites and found the Food and Wine Magazine online. I remember hearing about recipes from this magazine first on the TV show ‘Top Chef’ which was one of my favourites. Try out this amazingly simple, tasty noodle salad.

Ingredients

4 scallions, white and light green parts thinly sliced, dark greens reserved
3 lemongrass stalks, smashed with the flat side of a knife
1/4 cup minced fresh ginger
1/2 cup Asian fish sauce
1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halved lengthwise
2 serrano chiles, seeded and thinly sliced
1 large garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 cup mirin
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1 pound pad thai rice noodles
1 small jicama (about 1 pound), peeled and cut into fine matchsticks
1/4 pound mung bean sprouts
Peanuts, cilantro and lime wedges, for serving

Method:

In a soup pot, combine the dark scallion greens with the lemongrass, 2 tablespoons of the ginger and 2 tablespoons of the fish sauce. Add 8 cups of water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 20 minutes. Add the chicken and simmer over low heat just until cooked, about 10 minutes. Remove the chicken. Strain the liquid into a heatproof bowl and let cool. Shred the chicken, add it to the liquid and refrigerate overnight.

In a small bowl, combine the chiles, garlic, sugar, mirin and vinegar with the remaining 2 tablespoons of ginger and 6 tablespoons of fish sauce. Refrigerate overnight.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook the noodles until al dente, about 6 minutes. Drain and cool under running water. Cut into 6-inch lengths and pat dry, shaking the colander occasionally. Transfer the noodles to a bowl along with the jicama, bean sprouts, sliced scallions and the dressing. Drain the chicken and add it to the salad. Serve with peanuts, cilantro and lime wedges.

MAKE AHEAD The chicken and dressing can be refrigerated overnight
